Available to students enrolled in Bachelor of Education (Secondary) and Graduate Bachelor of Education (Secondary). Graduate BEd students are required to take this subject with or before ED3491 if it is their first teaching area. It is recommended to be taken before ED3491 if it is their second teaching area.
This subject is an introduction to curriculum and teaching in the Key Learning Area of Studies of Society and Environment (SOSE) in the secondary school. Topics include the purposes of teaching in SOSE; the elements of SOSE curriculum and how they are used in planning for teaching and learning in the area; and basic teaching strategies appropriate to teaching key aspects of the subject.
Learning Outcomes
- apply a critical understanding to issues in secondary school curriculum and teaching in society and environment;
- demonstrate a knowledge of key elements of the curriculum in the area and their role in teaching;
- demonstrate skills of planning and presentation relevant to teaching in this Key Learning Area at secondary school level.
