This subject is an introduction to teaching the Arts in early childhood and primary school comprising five distinct areas: Dance, Drama, Media, Music and Visual Arts. Students will have opportunities to engage in and reflect upon a range of arts experiences. They will be involved in practical activities that will enable them to develop skills and methods required to teach the Arts in early childhood and primary classrooms; integrate the Arts with other Key Learning Areas, Early Learning Areas and Foundation Learning Areas; and extend the influence of the arts throughout schools and their communities.
Learning Outcomes
- to become aware of the unique ways of learning and knowing, which the Arts provide, as well as their strengths as sources of self esteem, cultural significance, communication, literacy and creative problem solving;
- to critically explore trends in Arts education philosophy and practice;
- to engage in motivating and inclusive learning experiences which integrate theory and practice, using a variety of media and pedagogical tools appropriate for early childhood and primary Arts programs.
