Available to students who have completed the BSc major in Geology at James Cook University or an equivalent qualification from another institution and who require a sound academic and professional background appropriate for employment within the mineral industry. The subject is designed to combine the development of independent research skills with specialist training in the area of metalliferous economic geology. The program draws heavily on expertise and industry relationships afforded in the Economic Geology Research Unit. Candidates may enrol to commence study at the beginning of either Semester 1 or 2.

Studies include: coursework related to the origin of ore deposits and basic techniques of ore search;|development of mapping skills through supervised mapping training;|development of research skills through an independent investigative thesis.|

Prerequisites:12 units of level 3 EA subjects at Credit level
