Available to students who have completed the BSc major in Geology at James Cook University or an equivalent qualification from another institution and who are seeking research training in any subdiscipline of geology in which the school has research expertise and resources: igneous and metamorphic geology, economic geology, sedimentary and marine geology, geochemistry and mineralogy, regional geology, tectonics, structural geology and landscape evolution, stratigraphy and palaeontology.

Candidates may enrol to commence study at the beginning of either Semester 1 or 2. The subject includes: a field and laboratory based thesis involving original research work.|additional studies in the school at level 4, specialised reading and discussion, which includes the completion of specific assignments.|

Prerequisites:12 units of level 3 EA subjects at Credit level
