This subject deals with the planning and design of multi purpose development or rehabilitation projects. The overriding goal is sustainable development; that is providing for human use and natural function, now and in the future. Generally three projects are included, covering topics selected from water and wastewater design; stream rehabilitation; tropical aquaculture and other infrastructure projects.

Learning Outcomes

• apply basic science and engineering fundamentals to the planning and design of projects;
• develop an understanding of sustainable development, planning and design through practical application to a range of case study projects;
• develop problem formulation, analysis, evaluation and decision making skills for multi-purpose projects;
• develop report writing skills for inter-disciplinary communication with engineers, managers and project stakeholders;
• function effectively as an individual and as a manager or member of a project design team.
