Creating business intelligence requires an understanding of the business environment and an ability to capture, model and interpret the salient descriptors of that environment. This subject provides students with decision support theory and modelling skills that can be applied to develop models to support decision-making and understand intelligence emerging from expanding organizational information resources. Students will be required to develop the knowledge and skills to be able to build useful and error free computer-based decision models for a number of business problems.

Learning Outcomes

• to understand the structure and use of databases;
• to be able to build and test simple business models using databases;
• to be able to design, build and test a model of a business problem using spreadsheets;
• to be able to communicate and present the constraints and results of computer-based business models;
• to understand decision support theory and the process of designing and building business models.
