Honours thesis involves an investigation of a topic of the student's choice relevant to his/her own interests. The thesis will be based on the proposal due at the commencement of Year 4, and will be supervised by one or more academic members of the School. Although the length of the thesis may vary with the topic studied and the methodology of the investigation, and length does not indicate quality, the thesis will not exceed 20,000 words.
Learning Outcomes
- To enable the student to gain experience in discovery, critical analysis, problem solving, and interpretation of data;
- To extend the students' pass degree work and gain excellence in a research based study concentrating on a specific topic of their choice relevant to their own educational and professional interests;
- To prepare the student to be able to take on the demands of a longer more sustained project such as the postgraduate dissertation.
Graduate Qualities
- The ability to think critically, to analyse and evaluate claims, evidence and arguments;
- The ability to use a variety of media and methods to retrieve, analyse, evaluate, organise and present information.
