Quality Management and Legal Issues: correct identification, confidentiality, informed consent and medico-legal liability. Pre-analytical quality assurance. Universal precautions infection control.Equipment and Procedures: blood collection including evacuated tubes, needle and syringe, heel and finger pricks. Body fluid and tissue collections including urine, faeces, semen, drainage fluids, skin scrapings, exudates. Neonatal collecting techniques. Special collections to include difficult access to veins.Packing and shipping of specimens including hazardous substances and perishables and documentation.Health Care Settings: hospital bedside, clinics or outpatient departments, culturally aware practice. Communication, including the management of the non-compliant customer/client.
Learning Outcomes
- competently collect and dispatch pathology samples;
