This subject provides students with an opportunity both to deepen their understandings of theoretical issues and research methodologies in anthropology and to broaden their familiarity with the social sciences. Admission is available on a part-time basis to students who have satisfied the requirements of the school regarding the standard of academic achievement necessary to proceed to the honours degree. Students enrolling in AN4004 will also enrol in AN4005 Anthropology Part Time Honours B in order to complete the degree. The curriculum comprises the supervised writing of a 12,000 word thesis on a specific research project.
Learning Outcomes
- become familiar with advanced theory and methods in anthropology;
- design and undertake a research project;
- develop the writing and presentation skills required to complete a thesis;
- identify and discuss current trends, issues and debates in anthropology;
- understand the ethical, disciplinary and practical implications of anthropological research.
