TERTIARY ACCESS COURSES OFFERED BY THE SCHOOL OF INDIGENOUS AUSTRALIAN STUDIES
TERTIARY ACCESS PROGRAMS
1.1 ELIGIBILITY FOR ENROLMENT
This course is designed primarily to meet the needs of Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders. A person who is approved to enrol for the course will normally be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. Non-Indigenous Australian people may also apply to enrol in this course and acceptance is dependent upon a quota.
1.2 The course is available to applicants who complete, to a satisfactory standard, the assessments required to qualify for entry to the Programs.
2.1 CONSTITUTION OF THE COURSE
The subjects selected shall be in accordance with the programs appended to these Requirements.
3.1 REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPLETION OF THE COURSE
To complete the course, a candidate must have completed subjects of minimum value of 24 units in accordance with these Requirements. The normal time for completion of the course is one year full-time.
SCHOOL OF INDIGENOUS AUSTRALIAN STUDIES — PROGRAMS
James Cook University provides the opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to access and participate in studies at tertiary level. The School of Indigenous Australian Studies currently operates from its locations in Townsville and Cairns.
Various education and research programs are conducted from each location.
TERTIARY ACCESS LEVEL 2
Townsville, Cairns
This course of one academic year prepares students for entry into an undergraduate course in a specific field of study. Students may choose from the following options:
1. Humanities Tertiary Access Course (HuTAC) is offered in flexible delivery mode with a quality tutorial support program to cater for individual students’ learning needs.
2. Science Tertiary Access Course (SciTAC). This prepares students for entry into Health Sciences including Medicine and Nursing; Science including Marine Biology and Biomedical Sciences; and Engineering. This course is available only at the Townsville campus.
All applicants for tertiary access programs must participate in the Internal Selection Program (ISP) which is offered twice a year, in May and November, in Townsville and Cairns. The ISP includes a series of diagnostic assessments and an interview process.
HUMANITIES TERTIARY ACCESS COURSE (HUTAC)
Subjects are offered by internal and external mode in Townsville and Cairns. Those marked * are not available to external students.
