Zoological Research Projects

10 days workshops, 5 - 7 day field trip of laboratory work. January block mode.

Each student will be given a specific zoological question and will be required to design a zoological experiment, to write a project proposal and to collect data to answer this question. Students will be required to analyse the resulting data statistically and present the findings as a seminar and as a research paper.

Major topics include ecology of tropical invertebrates, ecophysiology of tropical vertebrates, tropical herpetology.

Learning Objectives:

to gain experience in the production of project proposals;

to gain an understanding of the procedures involved in designing field or laboratory experiment;

to gain experience in collection and analysis of zoological data and the subsequent production of a seminar and research paper;

to gain experience in scientific review of the students' own work by their peers.

Assessment by project proposal (20%); seminar (20%); research paper (60%).
