Interpersonal Practice

52 hours workshops/seminars. Semester 1 Internal. Semester 1 Limited Attendance (distance education students only).

Introduction to practice skills of intervention with, and between, individuals. This includes skills of active listening, brokerage, mediation and advocacy.

Learning Objectives:

appropriate usage of the microskills of communication to enhance interpersonal communication;

brokerage of individuals access to appropriate services;

mediation of disputes between persons;

advocacy of clients rights appropriate to the goals of social justice and the professional codes of ethics;

critical usage of skills across cultures, with a particular focus on Indigenous ways of interpersonal engagement.

Assessment by videotape presentation demonstrating applied skills usage (50%); written assignments (50%).
