52 hours practicals. Full year.

Available to all students subject to portfolio presentation and interview. Students should attend the introductory visual arts lecture (usually on Monday in Orientation Week) and register for preferred practical group through LearnJCU.

This subject will introduce students to the fundamentals of drawing. Students will explore tone, proportion and mark-making in a range of mediums.

Learning Objectives:

to develop skills in recognising and rendering differences of tone;

to develop skills in proportional and sight-size measuring;

to understand and apply principles of linear and aerial perspective;

to understand and explore conventions in composition;

to understand and explore objective and subjective viewpoints;

to explore mark-making in a range of mediums.

Assessment will be based on eight prescribed folios of drawings (10% each, total 80%); visual diary (20%). The folios will be of equal mark-weighting and will be assessed at progressive stages throughout the year. The visual diary will be assessed at the end of Semester 1 and 2 (10% at each assessment, total 20%).
