Construction and Presentation Techniques

2 hours lectures, 48 hours practicals. Semester 2.

Traditional and contemporary approaches to Fine Art presentation and associated construction techniques will be explored. Students will undertake workshops in: safety awareness; the construction of easels or plinths; basic tool making; construction of folders and boxes for the storage, transport and/or display of works on paper; construction of painting stretchers and framing of canvases; matt cutting and framing of works under perspex, as well as alternative presentation techniques for works on paper.

Learning Objectives:

to understand the fundamentals of creating traditional and contemporary methods of display;

to gain an appreciation of safe work practices;

to gain the practical skills required to access the workshop tools and equipment necessary for construction and presentation techniques.

This is an ungraded subject. Each of the set projects must be completed to a satisfactory standard to gain a Satisfactory ("S") grade.
