Fundamentals of Directing

52 hours. This will include some individually scheduled hours. Full year.

This subject provides the students with a fundamental understanding of the process of directing. The students will participate in all the steps of the director's process: the process of choosing a play; the development of a concept; casting; choice of the design, costumes, music and lighting in relation to a concept; work with the actors; creation of atmosphere and development of mise en scene; tempo-rhythm.

Learning Objectives:

to enable students to identify, obtain and employ a mastery of fundamental key competencies necessary for theatre skills in their profession.

Assessment by continuous class assessment (20%); critical essay (2000 words) (20%); direction of a performance (30%); directorial explication (30%).
