40 hours workshops. Full year.

Practical studies of plays and the subsequent realisation of the performance text are the content areas. Throughout the subject, theory is combined with practice in a physical exploration of the performance properties of texts. Analysis of selected Australian plays will be developed in workshop and seminar sessions.

Learning Objectives:

to demonstrate an understanding of selected playwrights within an historical/contemporary context;

to apply skills in the analysis and interpretation of selected texts as blueprints for performance;

to translate intellectual discovery into stage action by exploring physical ways of dealing with text.

Assessment by weekly tasks (20%); four seminar projects of 10% (40%); two essays (2,000 words each) (40%).
