Improvisation and Acting Techniques

This subject introduces the student to the specifics of acting as a creative art and to the language of acting and provides them with an understanding of some fundamental acting skills. Students will participate in a series of exercises, improvisations and interactions with partners, learning the essential acting skills such as relaxation, attention and concentration, truth and belief. Students will also work with selected texts.

Learning Objectives:

acquire the basic skills of acting for theatre;

apply the techniques learned towards some performance texts;

explore the physical properties of texts.

Assessment by tutorial attendance and participation (20%); improvisation performance (20%); text performance (20%); essays (20%); assignments (20%).
