This subject is concerned with the actor's basic training and the establishment of the inner `technique' . Key competencies that are developed to build this technique include relaxation, attention, concentration, `magic if', sense memory, memory of physical action, fantasy and imagination. This subject also provides students with the fundamental skills of acting and responding, beginning and developing improvisation, concentration and spontaneity, non verbal and verbal improvisation, building a character in improvisation and building a performance from improvisation.

Learning Objectives:

to enable students to identify, obtain mastery of and employ the fundamental skills essential to professional practice.

Assessment by presentations (20%); tutorial attendance and participation (70%); creative journal (10%).
