Advanced Geropsychology

This subject builds upon the core skills provided in PY5017 to provide additional specialised training. The focus is upon specialised assessment methods, identification and discrimination of less common forms of dementia, work in chronic care and residential care facilities and dealing with health-related issues. Topics include the assessment and diagnosis of less common neurological disorders, including Parkinson's disease, frontal lobe dementia, subcortical dementias and Lewy body variant; differentiation of depression and dementia; identification and management of disruptive behaviours; issues in residential care, including interdisciplinary teams and training; caregiving, including special topics such as elder abuse; specialised assessment methods, including cognitive screening; specialised memory tests, functional tests and neuropsychological methods and advanced health promotion, particularly nutrition, exercise and successful ageing.
