Health Issues in Practice

39 hours workshops. Semester 2 Limited Attendance.

Available to MPsych or DPsych students or other suitably qualified persons with the permission of the course coordinator.

Students will acquire knowledge of considerations relevant to health psychology in this region. Topics will include issues relevant to the practice of psychology in rural and remote regions of Australia and work with children and other special populations. Emphasis will be given to health-related assessment and planning, record keeping and health care evaluations.

Learning Objectives:

to understand the issues related to the maintenance and improvement of the health of people living in rural and remote regions;

to demonstrate skill in the administration and interpretation of tests and measures related to quality of life and to health problems;

to understand the differences in cultural factors and developmental stage as they influence the assessment and treatment of health problems in people of different ages and cultural backgrounds.

Assessment by theoretical written assignment (60%); case management presentation and written paper (40%).
