Methods of Intervention 2

39 hours seminars. Semester 2 Limited Attendance.

Available to MPsych or DPsych students or by permission of the course coordinator.

This subject will equip students with further skills in the application of cognitive behavioural and behavioural therapeutic methods. Topics will include issues relevant to the practice of psychology in rural and remote regions of Australia, as well as approaches to the treatment of more complex disorders such as addictions, co-morbid conditions and psychosis.

Learning Objectives:

to show increased awareness of cultural issues relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders;

to become familiar with ethical issues involved in practice with people of other cultures;

to become proficient in dealing with matters affecting physical and mental health in rural regions;

to become familiar with methods of remote delivery of services;

to have increased knowledge of more severe forms of psychological disturbance such as psychosis, addictions, or other complex disorders, including methods of treatment.

Assessment by individual project or report (50%); group projects (40%); participation (10%).
