Photographic Business Management and Marketing

Available to Bachelor of Photography students.

This subject will introduce students to business planning, marketing, financial management and the statutory requirements necessary to successfully operate a photographic business. Topics to be covered include: researching and developing a business plan; budgeting; pricing photography; copyright; contracts; taxation requirements; employing staff and models; raising finance; promotional activities.

Learning Objectives:

acquire a knowledge of financial matters in the photographic industry and display an understanding of budgeting and business planning;

understand the role of manager and give a clear indication of understanding managerial legal, contract, staffing and statutory obligations;

gain an understanding of marketing and promoting a photographic business;

acquire the knowledge to identify the factors to be considered in pricing photographs.

Assessment by two assignments (65%); written examination (25%); tutorial attendance and participation (10%).
