Introduction to Pharmacy Practice and Pharmaceutical Sciences 2
Available to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Pharmacy.

This subject is a continuation of PC1004 . The student will be introduced to the importance of effective written communication in the practice of pharmacy and the special needs of certain groups in this regard. An introduction to finding pharmaceutical resources, data management and statistical analysis will be provided.
Students will also develop an understanding of the systems of weights and measures, equipment, calculations and techniques used in preparation of extemporaneous pharmaceutical formulations. The packaging, labelling, transportation and storage of pharmaceuticals, outlining the unique needs of rural and remote areas will be explored.
a knowledge of available pharmaceutical resources in the library and world wide web and how to access them;
demonstrate practical extemporaneous dispensing and the related written and verbal communication skills;
Assessment by a two-hour examination (60%); laboratory examination and reports (30%); pharmaceutics assignment (10%). A satisfactory performance in all aspects of the subject is required. This is defined as at least 60% in the dispensing practical examination and all laboratory reports and at least 50% for all other sections of the subject. Attendance at practicals is compulsory.
