Nursing Inquiry 3 - Nursing Knowledge

Available to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Nursing Science (Post-registration) - Fiji program.

This subject discusses the development of nursing theories and links specific nursing theories to research and to practical application in the student's clinical experience. The second module focuses on ethical concepts within nursing. Principles and theories of ethics are explored and students are encouraged to deconstruct medical-legal and ethical dilemmas that are encountered in practice.

Learning Objectives:

critically analyse the interrelationship between nursing theory, research and practice;

identify the key characteristics of various nursing models and theories and their application to practice;

identify theoretical and conceptual frameworks applicable to nursing research;

develop an understanding of the role and importance of ethics in professional life, clinical judgement and research;

reflect upon conflicts between personal and professional values and ethics;

develop processes of critical thinking and reflective practice for incorporation into their professional practice.

Assessment by presentations (10%); two essays (50% and 40%).
