Internal (Townsville, Cairns, Mt Isa campuses) and external by a combination of reading and computer-based discussion groups. Semester 2.

This subject includes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health; impact of tropical environment on health eg heat related disorders; provision of health services/health policy in relation to geography (finance, service provision, population density, rural and remote issues); tropical trauma - envenomation: land and marine; barotrauma; retrieval of victims of industrial and other trauma from remote areas; tropical diseases - arboviruses; malaria; melioidosis; mycobacterium; skin cancers; kidney disease.

Learning Objectives:

discuss the issue of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and its impact on the delivery of health care in the north;

outline the major aspects of health care delivery across the north of Australia;

describe the impact of climate on the health of northern Australians;

discuss health problems (and their management) that are prevalent in northern Australia.
