Preparation for Practice

HECS Band 1

20 hours lectures, 20 hours tutorials Semester 2 (Townsville, Cairns, Mount Isa campus); Limited Attendance (Townsville campus) Semester 2.

Available only to level 3 nursing science students.

This subject assists to prepare the student for the transition from undergraduate student to professional registered nurse. The students are introduced to the principals of management, leadership and working within the multidisciplinary team.

Learning Objectives:

discuss quality improvement functions as components of the nurse's responsibility to the profession and to the organisation;

contribute effectively to group processes within the workplace;

critically analyse a broad range of issues pertinent to the role and function of the novice registered nurse;

display the ability to integrate a number of management strategies into the novice RN role.

On-course assessment (100%).
