Transitions into Nursing 2

HECS Band 1

30 hours lectures, 20 hours tutorials, 30 hours nursing science laboratories, 140 hours clinical placement Semester 2 (Townsville, Cairns, Mount Isa, Thursday Island); Limited Attendance (Townsville campus) Semester 2.

Available only to level 2 nursing science students.

This subject develops concepts introduced in Ns2011 and introduces the student to concepts of mental health nursing care.

Learning Objectives:

integrate the professional knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary for clinical application;

develop and institute nursing care for clients with altered physiological and mental health status;

discuss the clinical aspects of treatment practices and holistic patient care for the client who is experiencing an alteration in functional physiological and mental health status;

integrate knowledge from other subjects in applying the skills of clinical decision making, reflective practice and therapeutic relationship building;

continue to develop an awareness of the health needs of diverse groups within Australian society.

Assessment by ongoing course assessment (40%); examination (60%); written documentation of competencies in clinical setting (satisfactory level required).
