Students undertaking this subject will develop further skills in the use of a suite of music software programs and experience with a range of music technology hardware devices. The subject builds on techniques gained in Music Technologies 1, with a focus on film music and radiophonic/electronic music. Areas examined include sound synthesis, MIDI, digital audio, sound recording and multi-media. Additionally, students will further their knowledge of the history and aesthetics of electronic and computer music through the study of set works, selected course readings and the study of the set texts.

Learning Objectives:

gain further knowledge of sound synthesis, MIDI and digital audio systems;

gain a further appreciation of the history and aesthetics of electronic and computer music in both contemporary and art music settings;

gain further experience in the field of sound recording;

gain practical skills and knowledge of film music and radiophonic composition.

Assessment by assignments (60%); examination (20%); essay (20%).
