Students will continue their ongoing study of tonal music theory and composition techniques and will undertake a study of mid to late 20th century composition and analysis. Further studies in orchestration and arrangement are undertaken with a focus on woodwind instruments.

Learning Objectives:

gain an understanding of techniques used in tonal music composition and analysis;

gain an understanding of mid to late 20th century composition techniques and analysis;

gain a knowledge of western wind instruments and the manner in which music is composed and arranged for winds.

Assessment by components of: Tonal music - worksheets (15%); assignment (15%); examination (10%). Composition - portfolio (15%); analysis (15%); examination (10%). Orchestration - arrangement (10%); worksheets (5%); performance (5%).
