Performing Music 1

Available to BMus students who have passed the music rudiments test.

Performing music involves active specialisation in one of four areas: instrumental or vocal performance, composition, music technology or musicology. Students engage in a variety of practice-based studies in their chosen area and develop choral/vocal skills by participating in the University choir. One of the fundamental components of this subject is aural training and students work comprehensively in this area.

Learning Objectives:

develop and enhance skills in either composition, instrumental or vocal performance, musicology or music technology in a variety of contexts;

develop and enhance verbal and written skills in a variety of music contexts;

increase aural awareness skills of perception, analysis, identification and synthesis.

Assessment by progressive practical tasks (40%); major performance/portfolio (40%) (must be successfully passed); aural training (20%). Participation at a minimum of 80% of choir rehearsals and performances must be achieved to pass this subject.
