Project management in business is, on the one hand, a tool for implementation of business decision making. On the other hand it is an overall systems framework within which to evaluate the consequences of business decision making. In this context it is important in helping Australian businesses to progress towards an international competitive advantage in terms of the triple bottom line (financial, environmental and social).

Learning Objectives:

to understand the key concepts in project management;

to understand the limitations and advantages of implementing project management in business;

to gain experience in the use of software for project management;

ability to analyse and advise on the more reasonable (and less reasonable) applications of project management in business;

to understand the links between project management and project evaluation;

to explicitly make a contribution towards generic skills development related to (a) the ability to adapt knowledge to new situations; (b) the ability to reflect on and evaluate learning processes and products; (c) the ability to learn independently and in a self-directed manner.

Assessment by on-course or part on-course and part end-of-semester examination (100%).
