This subject examines classical and contemporary issues in marine ecology at the population and ecosystem levels. Like MB5260 , topics covered include population dynamics, dispersal and connectivity, species interactions (competition, mutualism, consumer-resource interactions), biodiversity, the effects of physical processes on marine communities and the dynamics of energy and nutrients in marine systems. However, this subject adopts a more theoretical perspective and utilises more advanced mathematical techniques than MB5260 . Recommended for students interested in postgraduate research that involves ecological modelling.

Assessment by assignments (65%); examination (35%).
