Mathematical Methods and Differential Equations

39 hours lectures, 13 hours practice classes. Semester 2. Ma2000 is a corequisite subject. This subject may be offered in flexible delivery mode if the class size is small.

Proof formalism, proof by induction; ordinary differential equations, series solutions, special functions, Sturm-Liouville theory; curvilinear coordinates, general surface integrals; sequences and series, formal definition of a limit; transform methods for partial differential equations; introduction to elasticity.

Learning Objectives:

master fundamental methods for the solution of a variety of mathematical problems from Science and Engineering.

Assessment by coursework (30%); examination (70%).
