Computing Mathematics

The subject will cover introductory aspects of discrete mathematics. Topics include Sets and Boolean operations, Cartesian product, Relations and Functions, Function composition, propositional and predicate logic, basic counting principles, permutations and combinations, recursion, proof by induction, introduction to graph theory.

Learning Objectives:

recognise and use sets and set operations;

understand and use binary operations, composition and transitive closure of binary operations;

understand and use functions and function composition and basic counting techniques;

understand and use propositional logic and quantifiers and proof by induction;

understand and use graph concepts and notation.

Assessment by on-course assessment (30%); end-of-semester examination (70%).
