Available to level 4 LLB students or combined degree students.

Testate succession - wills, testamentary capacity, personal representatives, executors, grants of probate, administration of assets, legacies, payment of debts.

Intestate succession - the rules applicable to total and partial intestacy; grants of letters of administration.

Testator's family maintenance - claims of family and dependants to support from the estate of the deceased and the power of the court to vary a will.

Learning Objectives:

to introduce students to the law of succession, the problems associated with the branch of the law and proposals for reform.

Assessment by essay (20%); final examination (80%) (subject to variation).
