This subject is designed to provide students with the skills to produce broadcast news stories and news bulletins to industry standard. The subject involves liaising with the community, selecting suitable stories, conducting research and interviews, non-linear editing to final cut and understanding multi-camera television studio production.

Learning Objectives:

gain an understanding of television news-gathering and production processes for news bulletins;

gain the ability to write television news scripts;

learn electronic news-gathering skills for television news production;

acquire television interviewing skills suitable for news;

develop audio-visual editing skills appropriate for television news stories;

acquire on-camera presentation skills in the field and in the studio.

Assessment by production of original news stories throughout semester (60%); in-studio production of a news bulletin (40%).
