13 hours lectures (video-conferenced to Cairns), 26 hours tutorials (over three intensive workshops in Cairns). Semester 1.

This subject is designed for those who have either completed Basic Japanese at JCU or have studied Japanese up to an HSC level.

Learning Objectives:

to equip students with the skills necessary to seek and give advice; discuss hearsay; express aims and purpose; communicate successfully in reading and writing on the above topics; comprehend the main points of the story line in a film or TV drama; write summaries on the above; comprehend and construct sentences at a higher level of complexity than expected at a basic level, such as for example using embedded questions and the passive voice.

Assessment by assignments, in-class tests, oral/aural and written examinations: listening (25%); speaking (25%); reading (25%); writing (25%).
