Basic Japanese 1

13 hours lectures (video-conferenced to Cairns), 39 hours tutorials (over three intensive workshops in Cairns). Semester 1.

This subject is designed for those who have either completed Foundation Japanese at JCU or have studied Japanese elsewhere, but not quite up to an HSC level.

Learning Objectives:

to equip students with the skills necessary to ask permission and express prohibition; talk about the weather, climate, seasons; discuss skills and abilities; express intentions and desire; ask for directions; communicate effectively in reading and writing on the above topics. Glean simple information from authentic TV/radio broadcast.

Assessment by assignments, in-class tests, oral/aural and written examinations: listening (25%); speaking (25%); reading (25%); writing (25%).
