This subject is designed for complete beginners. It introduces the two syllabary writing systems hiragana and katakana as well as the fundamentals of kanji , and starts building elementary conversation skills.

Learning Objectives:

to equip students with the skills necessary to introduce themselves and exchange greetings; discuss countries of origin, occupations, fields of study and hobby interest; deal with numbers - phone numbers, prices, etc.; talk about time; talk about families; order meals and drinks and to deal with elementary shopping tasks and read and write simple passages in hiragana and katakana .

Assessment by assignments, in-class tests, oral/aural and written examinations: listening (25%); speaking (25%); reading (25%); writing (25%).
