Scriptwriting for Radio and Television

Townsville

13 hours lectures, 26 hours tutorials. Semester 1.

Available to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Indigenous Studies, Bachelor of Journalism and other undergraduate students.

Students will be introduced to basic scriptwriting techniques for both radio and TV. Plot lines, character development, the writing of dialogue and genre differences will be covered. Standard layouts for both radio and TV will be taught.

Learning Objectives:

identify and apply features in writing and development of a radio and TV script;

interpret differences between scripts written for a variety of common program genres;

critically analyse a range of scripts for structure, content and creativity;

use computer based programs;

produce and market short scripts for radio and TV to cater for diverse socio-cultural audiences.

Assessment by script for 5min radio piece (20%); script for 5min video piece (20%); seminar presentation of video review (20%); final 15min film script project (40%).
