Radio Current Affairs

Students extend their radio reporting, production and presentation skills to current affairs. The subject involves researching and conducting interviews, digital editing and studio-production of current affairs programs. The subject explores techniques used by investigative journalists and emphasises the need for balanced reports in current affairs programs.

Learning Objectives:

ability to identify and develop current affairs stories;

ability to prepare and conduct current affairs interviews;

further develop audio news-gathering and digital editing skills for the current affairs genre or radio journalism;

ability to produce complex stories (ie packages) to industry standard; planning and executing a magazine production schedule;

ability to produce and present a current affairs program, in a live, or simulated, live-to-air situation.

Assessment by regular current affairs assignments (50%); production of a current affairs program (40%); participation in practicals (10%).
