Radio News

13 hours lectures, 20 hours practicals. Semester 1.

Available to Bachelor of Indigenous Studies students and students enrolled in accredited journalism programs.

Students are introduced to the daily operation of radio newsrooms and to `writing for the ear'. The subject prepares students for radio reporting positions and includes radio news-gathering, news writing, interviewing techniques, digital editing and radio news presenting.

Learning Objectives:

ability to write for radio;

ability to conduct news-gathering suitable for radio news;

to further develop journalistic interviewing skills for the purpose of inclusion in radio news stories and bulletins;

ability to prepare a radio news bulletin to deadline;

ability to present a radio news bulletin `live', on-air.

Assessment by regular radio news assignments (50%); presentation of a news bulletin (40%); participation in practicals (10%).
