Radio Introduction

13 hours lectures, 20 hours practicals. Semester 2.

Available to Bachelor of Indigenous Studies students and Bachelor of Journalism students.

Students are introduced to basic forms of radio programs. The production of a magazine program is taught. Program presentation, field recording, interviewing, editing and writing for radio techniques are introduced. Research for program material is also covered.

Learning Objectives:

how to do a variety of interviews including, vox pops, oral history and informational;

how to edit interviews;

how to write for radio, including community announcements and introductions to interviews;

the operation of basic recording equipment to record voice;

how to operate the radio panel;

the presentation of a radio program;

undertake music programming;

how to identify an audience and cater to it in programming.

Assessment by one edited Vox-pop (20%); one edited interview (20%); one pre-recorded magazine program - team (50%); participation in practicals (10%).
