The presentation of a cultural portrait through a selection of various texts and visual media (in English).

Learning Objectives:

give students a basic understanding of those factors which support the cultural framework of Japan;

introduce Japanese society and its individuals both from a popular as well as a more traditional perspective.

Assessment by a written two-hour examination (30%); tutorial presentation (25%); major essay (45%).
