Advanced Geographic Information Systems

This subject focuses on integrating students' practical skills and conceptual knowledge of GIS towards building a GIS "from scratch" to address a real world regional environmental issue.

Learning Objectives:

work as a team to develop a GIS from start to finish;

practice basic skills in data creation, quality control and management;

build valuable problem solving and trouble-shooting abilities;

interpret the project findings in a real world context;

explore the implications of the project methods and results in a broader GIS theoretical context.

Assessment by team exercises (15%); discussion questions (10%); team report (30%); individual report (35%); literature review (10%).
