This subject examines the way in which cultural, political and economic forces create spatial patterns at the global level. Topics include the organisation of cities, population dynamics, political organisation of territory and the processes of urbanisation and industrialisation.

Learning Objectives:

identify the subject matter studied by human geographers;

describe the geographical distribution of languages, religions, population, urbanisation and economic activity at the global level;

explain what forces and factors have caused and are currently changing the global distribution of the above human attributes.

Assessment by examination (50%); practicals (10%); essay 1 (15%); essay 2 (25%).
