Human Geography: People and the Environment

The subject deals with basic geographical concepts of the nature of places, variations in human interactions with the environment, linkages between human societies, the spatial arrangement of societies, resources and their uses.

Learning Objectives:

to provide students with an understanding of the fundamental concepts in human geography that assist in understanding human spatial patterns, skills in basic cartography, map reading and interpretation and basic social science statistical methods through the use of applied problem solving and simulations;

use computer software to map and analyse research data.

Assessment by essay (20%); classroom based practicals (20%); computer assisted practical project (20%); final examination (40%).
