Visual Communication Study 6

Available only to BCommunication Design students.

Particular emphasis will be given to developing awareness of professional and industrial requirements and to job seeking and proficiency in freelancing skills. To this end, students will learn how to utilise communications technologies more efficiently, whilst developing interpersonal skills relevant to private design. This work will form the centrepiece of the student's contribution to the graduate exhibition, as well as several key folio pieces. Emphasis will be given to the development of an analytical approach to the creative visual process, building upon the student's pre-established foundation level understanding of core illustration activities. Studies will include: introduction to page layout applications; analytical studies of digital imagery; professional presentation.

Learning Objectives:

understand professional work practices, expectations and obligations;

achieve a level of technical proficiency appropriate for entry level professional practice;

develop a range of critical and analytical skills relevant to employment in the design profession;

demonstrate substantial creative and visual digital techniques;

concentration on and further development of personal style with the use of various computer applications.

Assessment by tutorial presentation (20%); three practical assignments (60%); visual journal (20%). Attendance of 80% at practical workshops is required to pass this subject unless prior arrangement has been made with the lecturer, academic adviser or Head of College.
