Visual Communication Study 4

Available to students enrolled in the BCommunication Design degree.

An introduction to digital illustration theory and practice. Emphasis is placed on refining conceptual and creative proficiency in conjunction with technical skills relative to studio and commercial practice. Design activities include production of storyboards, visuals and presentation visuals. Areas covered include pricing, suppliers, bureaus and Internet service providers. Design, artwork and production methods are examined. Students will develop a basic understanding of digital application and technologies thus extending their foundation level of core illustration and graphics related activities.

Learning Objectives:

demonstrate a sound understanding of traditional and digital pre-press production processes;

demonstrate a sound understanding of production requirements related to screen based media;

utilise computer software and information resources for creative, research and technical purposes;

identify and correct basic production related problems;

develop a range of analytical and critical skills relating to illustration practice;

produce effective, limited colour illustrations and graphical images.

Assessment by tutorial presentation (20%); three practical assignments (60%); visual journal (20%). Attendance of 80% at practical workshops is required to pass this subject unless prior arrangement has been made with the lecturer, academic adviser or Head of College.
