Digital Design for Mutimedia 1

Available to students enrolled in the BCommunication Design degree.

Planning and Print for multimedia. This is the first unit of a six semester advanced program for students studying a multimedia major within the Bachelor of Communication Design. Students enrolled in this subject will undertake a series of lectures, tutorials and practical exercises designed to develop a broad understanding of the function, philosophy and role of multimedia within contemporary society.

Students will develop expertise in a range of design related skills and technologies and will examine several concept building techniques that underpin the development of multimedia. This will also include the design and production of a range of 2D design print pieces, which would typically be used as support for CD/DVD projects.

Through a series of practical exercises, students will be introduced to a range of issues which must be considered before the commencement of a multimedia project with an emphasis on the development of costing and production schedules for multimedia.

Learning Objectives:

apply appropriate and creative design solutions to given problems and follow these solutions through several production phases in a manner suited to the selected production process;

utilise available computer software and information resources at an appropriate level for creative, research and technical purposes;

analyse and respond via appropriate design for specific markets;

create suitable flowcharts and storyboards to explain their vision;

use a range of technologies to enter resources including digital cameras and scanners;

extract and reformat resources from existing digital documents.

Assessment by four practical assignments (total 80%); research seminar (10%); participation (10%). Attendance of 80% at practical workshops is required to pass this subject.
